Tsarine Orium wins gold at the 2021 Feminalise competition
Tsarine Cuvée Orium champagne was a gold-medal winner at the 2021 Feminalise World Wine Competition, with a score of 16/20. The originality of this international competition is that its jury is entirely made up of women oenologists, viticulture professionals and wine specialists.
Each wine is blind tasted by three women; more than 700 tasters from all over France rated more than 5,000 wines from around the world. Owing to the health situation, this 15th edition of Feminalise, scheduled to take place in Paris, was held instead in the lovely town of Beaune in Burgundy.
Quite appropriately for this medal awarded by women œnophiles, Tsarine Orium Extra Brut was created by Isabelle Tellier, Chef de Cave of Chanoine Frères and one of the first women ever to have held that position in a champagne house.
Orium, Tsarine's extra-brut, continues garnering praise
Tsarine's Orium Extra Brut cuvée, launched in the autumn of 2019, has won wide recognition, winning a gold medal very recently in the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2021 with a score of 89/100.
Spring 2021, then, heralds two gold medals for Tsarine Orium. They add to the two distinctions won in 2020:
- Gold Medal at the worldwide Berliner Wine Trophy competition;
- an excellent score of 94/100 – “SUPERB A great achievement” – from Wine Enthusiast Magazine, the benchmark American wine publication.
All in all, magnificent results for Orium, Tsarine's extra-brut first launched in the autumn of 2019, and yet more recognition for its creator, Isabelle Tellier, Chef de Cave of the House of Chanoine Frères:
“This extra brut champagne, aged for more than 36 months in our cellars, is based on a subtle balance among the three Champagne grape varieties – 34% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 33% Meunier.
For Orium I was aiming at balance in all its purity and at retaining the typical qualities of each grape variety while reducing the amount of added sugar to produce what we call an extra brut.”
