Reims, April 2022
Beneath a brilliant sun and the wings of Morocco’s aerobatic patrol flying overhead, the 195 women’s teams of the 31st Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc passed in review along the beach at Essaouira (video) on Saturday 2 April!
The awards and closing ceremony, opened by Dominique Serra, creator of the rally, and Franck Coste, CEO of Champagne Chanoine Frères, was held under a tent set up in the medina.
The arrival of the teams and the ensuing gala took place in the presence of numerous personalities including His Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, Christine Lagarde, President of the ECB, André Azoulay, special adviser to the King of Morocco, and the Moroccan ministers of the Economy and Tourism.
Congratulations to all the participants who had come from Morocco, France, Belgium, the UK and Switzerland and who, with verve and tenacity, surmounted the difficulties of this 2022 rally, which included sandstorms beginning with the very first stage in the Moroccan desert!
After nine days of competition, the winners received awards in five categories: Quad/SUV; 4X4 / Truck; Crossover; and two for electric vehicles, eGazelles Auto and eGazelles Buggy.
Special kudos go this year to the “Coeur de Gazelles” association and its teams of volunteers who accompany the rally and who — given the health context — conducted medical and preventive programs with the children in the villages along the route and with nomadic populations.
Since 2015, Champagne Tsarine has been proud to continue its partnership with this unique adventure rally, exclusively for women.
